Moyard is a small but surprisingly well situated village on the road between Clifden and Letterfrack. Cleggan, Clifden and Letterfrack are all within easy reach and there is a small shop and post office, a four star hotel and restaurant, and one of the best known craft shops in the area, Avoca handweavers or "the impossible shop".
Moyard is also on the route to the famous Kylemore Abbey, and is an ideal base for touring and exploring this scenic part of north-west Connemara. The Connemara National Park is a small trip away, along some scenic coastal roads.
For the outdoor types, the area has superb sea angling, great shore fishing, nearby scuba diving, and horse riding for all ages and skill levels.
Dropping down onto the Moyard area from Clifden or Cleggan has some of the most breathtaking views around, with all of Ballinakill harbour, Twelve Bens, and the tapestry of fields clearly viewable from the top of the hill. |
