The village of Roundstone famous through the work of many well known painters attracted by the picturesque harbour and wonderful outlook across the deep inlet of the Atlantic to the ever changing peaks of the Twelve Bens. Its founder Alexander Nimmo chose his site well when he wrapped his lay out for the village about the harbour baisin and fine stone piers he had built there for the fishery board in 1822. Each summer Roundstone celebrates its marine history by hosting a regatta for the old work boats of the region, the Hookers, Pucain and Gleoiteoigi which have been lovingly revived and restored. Visit Micheal Killeen park, where a number of craft people make and exhibit their wears. Botanists will find the number and variety of rare plants in the area of interest, including heathers that grow nowhere else in Ireland. Stretching inland blanket bog a site of international scientific interest. Dogs bay is popular with visitors who like windsurfing and sailing.
